CONCEPT

The Karakul band is a concept, first and foremost.

It is not abstract, it is in fact at times painfully specific, inherently condtradictory, and unabashedly convoluted.

Karakul, like film, is all about the manipulation of time.

Sounds are stretched from microseconds to minutes. Delays and loops facilitate an aural fixation on all things repeating.

By taking audio sources and recording locations of ridiculous variety and collaging them together into audio "pieces," the goal is to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Releases are never in order and seldom, if ever tell a straight story when listened to in chronological order.

As far as the music, it is what it is. Sometimes pure noise, sometimes acoustic verse-chorus-verse stuff. The only way to know for sure is to click on an album and listen.

Like many things in life, with Karakul the bigger picture is a long time coming.
